Her first feature film, Let It Come Down: The Life of Paul Bowles, won an International Emmy award in 1998. She also directed The Holier It Gets, which was nominated for the Donald Brittain Award and the Chalmers Documentarian Award, and a documentary about Appalachian photographer Shelby Lee Adams. Baichwal has received several awards and scholarships throughout her career, including a McGill Major Fellowship and a 2 year FCAR Master's Scholarship.
