Diana DeGette is a member of Congress representing the First District in Colorado and has established herself as a leader on progressive issues such as LGBT rights, health care, reproductive rights, food safety, consumer protection, and environmental reform. She serves on the Committee on Energy and Commerce, where she works to improve health care, expand medical research, reform corporate practices, protect homeland security, address climate change, and promote energy independence. DeGette has led efforts to expand the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and was a key supporter of stem cell research legislation that passed with bipartisan support in Congress.
